RANDOM SHOTS: The Enchanting Forest of Mt. Dulang-Dulang

Mt. Dulang-Dulang, the highest peak of the Kitanglad Mountain Range in Bukidnon and the second highest in the country next only to Mt. Apo has a unique ecosystem common in elevated areas where mossy forests thrive in an ideal environment for moss, ferns and orchids.

Its natural look is so enchanting and resembling a whole different world reminiscent of scenes in The Lord of the Rings films. Many mountaineers and adventurers have gone to D2 as Dulang-Dulang is commonly called. One of the latest photo is shared by Outdoor is Life’s Facebook page (see below).

When did infinity pools became a trend? One of the more popular infinity pools near Cagayan de Oro is that of Ultra Winds Mountain Resort located in Pualas, Baungon, Bukidnon.

Although geographically and administratively located in Bukidnon Province, the resort is just a few hundred meters from the boundary with the city thru the CDO Convention Center Access Road at Taguanao, Indahag, just 20 minutes from city proper. Since it opened in 2015 and expanded in the following years, the pools have attracted visitors with its relaxing cool waters and a magnificent view of the countryside. Cagayan de Oro City’s Timothy Glenn Palacio has submitted his photo of Sagpulon Falls in Jasaan, Misamis Oriental as his official entry in the photography challenge as he vies for one of three semifinal slots from Mindanao in The Travel Intern Season 3, a lone traveler challenge organized by The Panoramic Soul, a travel and lifestyle blog.

To make it into the semifinals, his photo (shown below) should attain the most number of ‘likes’ in the official Facebook page.

Here are the rules and criteria in the voting. We have a week until November 17 to like his photo.

Glenn is currently in 4th place among quarterfinalists with a score of 90.005.

Tourism Pasalubong and Negosyo Center now rising at Capitol Park

The 2-storey Provincial Tourism Pasalubong and Negosyo Center is now taking shape at a section of Gov. Vicente de Lara Park right across the Misamis Oriental Provincial Capitol.

Shown below are the structural steel frames of the building.

Ongoing groundworks are also observed in the immediate vicinity.

This is the perspective of the project. Previous reports state the building will be mainly made of glass and steel and will house a Negosyo Center at the ground floor which includes a coffee shop, pasalubong center, display area and bar. The Provincial Tourism Office will occupy the second floor and will have a conference room and rest rooms. The outdoor area will have tables and chairs where visitors can sit down and relax while having coffee or tea.

A billboard onsite indicates the ongoing project is just Phase 1 and costs around P2.997 million.

Lite Ferries officially launched today, November 17, 2018, M/V LITE FERRY 18, its biggest and fastest ship serving the Cebu-Cagayan de Oro route with ceremonies held at Cagayan de Oro Port.

The ribbon cutting ceremony was led by Lite Ferries President and CEO, Lucio E. Lim, Jr. together with Cagayan de Oro City Mayor Oscar S. Moreno and MARINA-10 Regional Director Felisa Orongan.

The 3,881-ton, 92-meter long and 17-meter wide Lite Ferry 18 is the fastest passenger vessel to date serving the Cagayan de Oro-Cebu route with a travel time of 9 hours powered by 2 brand new Ningbo diesel engines with a combined power of 7,800 HP. It has a maximum speed of 16.8 knots and service speed of 15 knots. It is also the youngest ship plying the route being built in 2002.

It can accommodate a total of 856 passengers in two economy passenger decks, a tourist class, business class and four executive cabin rooms. and boasts of hotel-like features and amenities including a fully air-conditioned 40-seater restaurant, a fully stocked canteen that is open overnight, an information desk and multi-purpose kiosk. Its deck pathways are wide and spacious in compliance to Marina and international standards.

It departs Cagayan de Oro for Cebu every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday at 7PM and leave Cebu for Cagayan de Oro every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 7PM.

Lite Ferries presently operates a fleet of 25 roro-passenger ferries in Visayas and Mindanao with 22 destinations connecting Cebu (Cebu, Bogo, Toledo, Oslob, Samboan), Bohol (Tubigon, Tagbilaran, Jagna), Siquijor, Negros (San Carlos), Samar (Calbayog), Leyte (Ormoc), Misamis Oriental (Cagayan de Oro), Agusan del Norte (Nasipit-Butuan), Misamis Occidental (Plaridel) and Zamboanga del Norte (Dapitan). It is fully compliant with the International Safety Management Code (ISM) established by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and MARINA. Lite Ferries is now also undergoing ISO certification for its operations.

Have you ever planned to try the so-called Kawa Hot Bath? It was popularized in Tibiao, Antique but beginning next week, November 26, you don’t need to go to Antique because it will now be available at Leonida’s Travellers Inn, an affordable campers accommodation facility in Dahilayan, Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon.

The Kawa is a large thick vat and used as hot tubs perfect for the cool and chilly climate of Dahilayan. The use of herbs also helps in providing a soothing and relaxing experience.

Accordingly, the Kawa Hot Bath is good for you due to a number of reasons as indicated below.

Kawa Hot Bath rates range between P150 to P250 depending on the herbs used.

Leonida’s Travellers Inn is just near the village center of Dahilayan as shown in the map below. It’s just a 5-minute ride from Dahilayan Adventure Park.

Leonida’s Travellers Inn began its modest operations in August of 2014 caching in with the booming tourism industry brought about by Dahilayan Adventure Park. It’s also a perfect place for group outings like team building, camping, horseback riding, trekking or simply, just a getaway place from the urban jungle.

Room rates and guidelines are as follows:

  • P900 – single-sized bunk bed, good for 2
  • P1,000 – twin-sized bed, good for 3
  • P1,500 – family room with queen-sized bed with single-sized upper deck & separate single bed, good for 5
  • P1,500 – dorm-type with 3 single-sized bunk beds, good for 6
  • P6,000 – full house with 6 rooms (4 rooms with twin beds, 2 rooms with single-sized bunk beds), and 2 spacious living rooms where you can set up extra foams
  • No head count limit (it’s up to you to squeeze inside rooms)
  • P200 for extra foam with beddings
  • Occupy any rooms and setting up of tent is free. If not, P200 for tent setup.
  • All rooms have no air-conditioning (not necessary due to the cold weather). Electric fans are available mounted on walls in case you need one
  • Free use of kitchen with cooking gas, refrigerator and basic utensils
  • Free use of bonfire area; firewood is available
  • Basic toiletries and junk food are available for sale
  • Bookings are first come, first serve
  • Booking fee of P500 is required which will be deducted from room rates
  • Cancellation of bookings should be done at least 2 days  prior to booking date and booking fee will be refunded. Failure to cancel on the required 2-day period will forfeit the refund which will compensate the declined bookings and other walk-in guests

RANDOM SHOTS: Sapang Dalaga’s Floating Cottages

Have you ever been to the town of Sapang Dalaga? It is the last municipality in Misamis Occidental bordering the province of Zamboanga de Norte. While its local economy is based mainly on agriculture, it also has a good market for seafood owing to the rich marine resources in Casul Bay.

And right at the center are these floating cottages. There were only about three when it started and now has grown to about 17 and counting.

The expansion comes with increased demand with tourism activities in the area picking up.

The Caluya Shrine as shown below has brought religious tourism to Sapang Dalaga. The floating cottages are just a good place to have your lunch of quality and delicious seafood after a visit to the shrine.

The Christmas atmosphere is now felt in the Municipality of Tagoloan in Misamis Oriental with last night’s ceremonial switching on of its giant Christmas Tree at the municipal plaza.

Thousands of local townsfolk as well as those coming from nearby towns gathered at the town plaza to witness a fiesta-type celebration of the event.

When we first posted about Bukidnon’s ‘Hobbit House’ last May 31 this year, it wasn’t done yet but the trending photos of a real-life Hobbit House located nearby elicited curiosity and interest among netizens.

The Hobbit House is just part of a larger ecological development called Mt. Kitanglad Agro-Eco Farm located at Barangay Imbayao in Malaybalay City. For an affordable entrance fee of P50, you can have free coffee, farm tour, forest trek, hobbit home photo ops and other activities within the 22-hectare farm and marvel at nature’s preserve. And of course, the Hobbit House isn’t just a prop, you can also sleep inside (overnight) for a small fee of P100. Here’s a map for direction. From Sayre Highway, turn right to Diversion Road. Upon reaching the New Northern Mindanao Drug Rehab Center, turn right towards Brgy. Imbayao. You will pass by a large pineapple field by Del Monte. Upon reaching Imbayao Proper, turn left right after Imbayao Elementary School. The site is more or less 11 kilometers from the New Drug Rehab Center.

Every December, Tangub City prides itself as the biggest Christmas destination in Northern Mindanao. Its Christmas Symbols Festival has grown much over the years that it is now one of the country’s tourist attractions during the yuletide season. It was even named as the Christmas Symbol Capital of the Philippines in 2007.

Last Saturday, Tangub City officially opened this year’s edition at the 2.5-hectare city plaza.

And as expected, thousands gathered the ceremonial switching on of the lights.

City Hall to inaugurate Symphony of Lights today; temporary road closures set at 5PM

Cagayan de Oro City Hall will be illuminated starting tonight with the ceremonial switching on of Symphony of Lights at 6:00pm and several roads around City Hall will be closed to traffic including Ysalina Bridge for the event.

By virtue of Executive Order 201-2018A, the following streets will be closed to traffic beginning at 5:00pm.

Capistrano Street (from Toribio Chaves to Gaerlan)
Hayes Street (from Rizal to Burgos)
Gaerlan Street (from Rizal to Vamenta Blvd)-Includes Ysalina (Carmen) Bridge

Located right beside Drop Zone, the 26-stage, 250-meter long obstacle course will surely be a challenge not just for kids but for adults as well. Who will conquer it first?

RANDOM SHOTS: Tangub City’s 5,000 Lighted Flowers

If Cebu has 10,000 roses, then Tangub City has 5,000 flowers.

The lighted flowers display right in front of Tangub City Hall is one of this year’s attractions in the recently launched Christmas Symbols Festival.

Cebu’s ‘10,000 Roses’ located in Cordova, Mactan became so popular last year due to its uniqueness. Tangub City followed with its own version of 5,000 artificial LED-powered flowers in different colors.

Unlike in Cebu where it’s located at the tip of Mactan, Tangub’s version is right at City Hall.

You can enjoy a lot of selfies with a Christmas atmosphere.

Amaya View in Indahag, Cagayan de Oro City will be inaugurating its latest attraction – NOAH’S ARK – tomorrow, December 8, 2018.

Construction of the ark is now complete and landscaping works along the premises are still being undertaken.
